KUALA LUMPUR: Some 1,300 state junior athletes will meet at ‘Karnival Pelapis 1/2011’ in Kota Baharu from May 11 to assess their achievement.

National Sports Council (NSC) back-up squad director Jefri Ngadirin said it  will include boxing, weightlifting, sepak takraw, gymnastics and archery.

“Our main objective in organising this carnival is to evaluate the performance of athletes and assess the effectiveness of training programmes in the states,” he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.

Jefri said national coaches and NSC officials would be on the field to assess athletes during the five-day carnival.

“I hope junior athletes will not pass this chance of competing  at the Malaysian Games before moving on to a bigger stage,” he added.

‘Karnival Pelapis 2/2011’ will be held in Perlis at year end. — Bernama
