Winning Chinese voters PBS’ top priority

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has taken a special note of the outcome of the Sarawak election results and is fully aware of the issues and voting trend of the young and urban voters.

Its secretary general, Datuk Henrynus Amin, said PBS wouldcertainly analyse the issues and strategies used by the opposition in the Sarawak campaign and would take steps to deflect opposition propaganda in order to regain or enhance the support and confidence of the young and urban voters.

“The Chinese votes are very crucial for PBS and, for that matter, for BN, since they as a group represented a very significant part of the Sabah population.

“Winning the hearts and minds of the young and urban voters, especially the Chinese voters, is not going to be easy, but it would be PBS’ top priority,” he said in a statement yesterday.

As secretary general of PBS, he has received firm instructions from the PBS president to jump start party activities to focus on the young and urban voters as crucial parts of the party’s election preparation.

He said PBS vowed to fight for every vote within the urban or Chinese constituencies by directly engaging the young and urban voters wherever they are and bringing their views or issues relevant to them to be discussed in the BN meeting.

Henrynus, however, advised the young and urban voters not to be easily fooled by opposition’s big and unrealistic promises designed to hoodwink their unsuspecting mind.

As an example, he said, “Only recently, an opposition leader highlighted their party’s stand to support the Royal Commission of Inquiry on the huge presence of the transient population and fake identity cards, but at the same time, the same leader also promised to legalize the presence of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants in possession of illegally acquired citizenship document.”

He said the opposition can make big or bold promises but they were not sincere as they were merely playing politics in order to fish for votes.

“During the Sarawak general election, the opposition could not even agree on allocation of seats or candidates so they fought among themselves using own symbols to beat each other to their political demise,” he said.
