SANDAKAN: The Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) has sent out reminders to shop-owners to inform their sub-tenants that summons would be issued to those still hawking at five-foot walkways effective May 1.

SMC secretary Jeffrey Aman in a statement yesterday said that the measure to ban operating on five-foot walkways was due to public complaints that these operators had abused their licences and occupied the whole walkways.

He said hawkers who had paid their trading licence for the whole year can apply to SMC for refund.

SMC also reminded the public that summons would be issued to those caught throwing rubbish inside public transportation and onto the streets.

Such measure, effective May 1, is necessary to keep the town clean and dirty.
