IPG Rajang embarks on various programmes

BINTANGOR: Teachers Education Institute (IPG) Rajang Campus had embarked on various programmes to live up to its branding as a public institution of higher learning (IPTA) and its re-branding under the ‘The New IPG’ concept.

Its director Raymond Gai Panting said that the campus had already implemented the Human Capital Development Programme for the KPLI and PISMP students.

The module for the programme, aimed at imparting additional knowledge and skills to produce quality teaching professionals had been designed by the Students Affairs Department with co-operation from all other academic departments, he said, during the campus’s 36th convocation ceremony yesterday.

Under the programme, the students were trained on communication skills, self-esteem, religious values, career development and physical skills, he said.

Besides, the campus had also embarked on serial Teachers Human Development Course for PPISMP, PISMP and KPLI students, he said, adding the Curriculum Unit had planned to implement several other courses.

Among them were the Level 1 Badminton Coaching Course to be organised in collaboration with the National Badminton Association (BAM), Futsal Official Clinic in collaboration with Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), Athletic Technical Officials Course with Malaysian Amateur Athletic Association (KOAM), Volleyball Referee Association, organising of annual athletic championship, camping and Uniformed Bodies Drill.

To enhance the students’ public communication skills, they were required to present speeches during the weekly Uniformed Bodies assembly, he said. Adding additional input related to the teaching profession was also extended during the weekly assembly.

In that respect also, the In Service Training Unit had introduced courses for the support of academic staff, he said explaining that the main objective of the course was to enhance and update knowledge.

The latest programme was Building an Excellent Working Culture Course aimed at improving the performance of IPG Rajang Campus staff.

Raymond said, the few courses they had embarked on was just the beginning of the transformation process and he anticipated a lot of new things would be introduced in time to come to meet the demand of its status as an IPTA and `The New IPG’ concept.

Meanwhile a total of 189 students who hand completed a one-year Kursus Perguruan Lepasan Ijazah (KPLI) received their Diploma in Education during the ceremony held at the campus’s Sri Rajang Hall.

The scrolls were presented by State Legislative Assembly speaker Dato Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar who stood in for Planning and Resource Development (Second Minister)/Public Utilities minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan to officiate at the ceremony.

142 of the graduates had successfully completed the course in June last year and 47 in December last year.
