MUKAH: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday reiterated that he needed two to three years to assemble a team of younger leaders before stepping down.

He said this at a BN thanksgiving dinner held at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja Mukah.

In the meantime, Taib said he wanted all BN leaders and members in the state to eliminate the ‘politics of clickishness’ as it could undermine the ability and credibility of the government in serving the people.

He also reminded BN leaders of the need to be receptive in accommodating Chinese representation in the state Cabinet even though the community had departed from a multi-racial political trend which is strongly supported by the majority of Sarawakians.

Taib also took the opportunity to thank all Sarawakians for their votes which gave BN a more than two thirds majority during the April 16 polls.

Among those present at the gathering were Taib’s wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang and  Dato Sri Empiang Jabu, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datin Fatimah Abdullah, Minister of Land Development Dato Sri Dr. James Jemut Masing, SPDP vice-president Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie (representing Dato Sri William Mawan), SUPP president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Dato Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar and Mukah MP-cum-organising chairman Dato Sri Dr Muhammed Leo Toyad.
