KUCHING: KTS Group of Companies got on the bald wagon with Go Bald 3 when 18 employees and business owners went under the shaver at Crown Square here yesterday.

IT’S GONE!: KTS’ baldies after the Satellite Shave at Crown Square yesterday. Also seen here is Ho (fourth right).

They also raised a total of RM7,000 for Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), which will go into funds for their new centre at Taman Desa Wira.

KTS is the fourth group to take part in the Satellite Shave, where the Go Bald team goes to the organisation’s premises and run mini events leading up to the big shave on May 15.

Previously, Hilton Kuching, Somerset Hotel Miri and Swinburne University hosted their own Satellite Shave events.

Go Bald is the charity event that quickly gained attention and popularity since its introduction in 2009.

Mindful of the devastating effect hair loss has on those dealing with cancer, Go Bald aimed to show children that being bald is not bad or shameful, especially when the hair loss is from chemotherapy.

Supporters have embraced this effort, coming in greater numbers every year. The 113 heads (including two women) shaved in 2009 were trumped by 405 heads (including 26 women) in 2010.

This year, Go Bald 3 was held for the first time in Miri, with 112 heads shaved and over RM117,000 raised as of last Sunday.

“We are targeting a maximum of 500 heads at tHe Spring on May 15,” said SCCS president Gary Ho.

Those who wish to support the cause can still sign up to Go Bald.

Members of the public can collect pledge cards from the Go Bald booth at tHe Spring.
