‘Suggestion a matter of personal opinion’

KUCHING: The suggestion by A-One Club to call upon Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu as the next Chief Minister has been described as a matter of personal opinion of devoted ex-civil servants who have the best interest of their beloved Sarawak at heart.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Batu Kawa chairman Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said however the group’s views are worthy to be taken note of.

“I believe our Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is seeking a leader of leaders who will be well accepted and recognised by all Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) top leadership,” he said yesterday.

“After all, a smooth power transition is crucial to strengthen PBB, rejuvenate its growing younger members, keep it valid for generations and continue to maintain a powerful Sarawak BN presence in government,” he added.

He pointed out that a smooth transition of power is of utmost importance to further strengthen PBB.

He said it was equally important for PBB to rope in young members to become leaders to ensure relevancy and strengthen the BN government.

On Wednesday, A-One Club spokesman Dr Elli Luhat said Jabu, who is also Deputy president of PBB currently was the most suitable candidate to succeed Taib as Chief Minister.

This is agreed by members after considering all aspects, Elli said when endorsing Jabu.

Taib is PBB president and state BN chairman.
