Launching of book series closes national-level Teacher’s Day do

KUCHING: The Teacher’s Day celebration at the Kuching Waterfront officially came to a close yesterday with the launching of a collection of books on science fiction, action adventures and classic children tales.

Promising to provide a reading experience like watching a movie, the series of eight book collection by L Ron Hubbard entitled ‘Stories from the Golden Age’ were translated into Bahasa Melayu and contains an audio sound effect to enhance readers’ experience.

“Reading the book would feel like watching a Hollywood movie. Imagine reading an Indiana Jones book accompanied with soundtracks that would make you feel as though you’re in it,” International Publishing of Author Services Inc vice-president Claude Sandoz told reporters when met after the launch yesterday.

The publisher represented all literary, theatrical and musical works of L Ron Hubbard.

He added that the books also come with a reading audio that would help readers understand the words. The English version of the series was launched two weeks ago.

Officiating at the launch yesterday was Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who also oversaw the launch of an autobiography entitled ‘Razali Ismail: Arkitek Pendidikan Negara’ (Nation’s Education Architect) penned by Sharif Putera.

Also present at the closing ceremony were Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and wife Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib, Muhyiddin’s wife Puan Sri Noraini Abdul Rahman and Utusan Group executive director Tan Sri Mohamed Hashim Ahmad Makaruddin.

Both books are distributed in collaboration with Utusan Publications and Distributors Sdn Bhd.

Muhyiddin then visited all the exhibition booths at the festival which was held since May 13 in conjunction with the national-level Teacher’s Day celebration. The Waterfront was selected as this year’s host.

The festival, organised by the Education Ministry in collaboration with the Utusan Group, was regarded the biggest teachers’ festival in the country.

Throughout the four-day festival, various educational activities, contests, exhibition of books, magazines and other products were held.

Among other activities, the festival also featured various entertainment programmes such as stage play by the Information Department, concert featuring local artistes and a special appearance by famous local animation ‘Upin and Ipin’.

Utusan Group had been organising the festival for three years in a row.
