KOTA KINABALU: Hard work, cooperation and communication are the three important factors in producing excellent students, according to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

It is important for both teachers and parents to be actively involved in motivating students to perform well, he said during the 22nd state scholarship presentation ceremony yesterday.

Congratulating the 25 recipients, he said they are the role models that have set a good example for their juniors at school.

“I believe if you work hard, and with great commitment, you will be able to excel in your studies. You are the future leaders, the future hope,” he said.

Musa said both parents and teachers also play an important role in moulding young students to what they are today.

“With your guidance, it is not impossible for our children to achieve success and excel in whatever path they may take,” he said.

Meanwhile, Yayasan Sabah director Tan Sri Datu Khalil Datu Jamalul said a total of 353 students have benefited from the scholarship scheme between 1990 and 2011, and 257 of them have completed their degree programmes at local and international institutions, while 92 others are undergraduates.

“We are proud that 16 of them finished with First Class Honours. Statistics showed that those who have been offered the state scholarship have completed their education with flying colours. Most of them are holding high posts in both the government and private sectors,” he said.

He said their next target is to elevate Kolej Yayasan Sabah to Kolej Universiti Yayasan Sabah by 2013.
