House burgled while owners away in KL

KUCHING: A couple from Tabuan Heights lost more than RM65,000 in valuables when their house was broken into last week while they were away.

The incident was said to have occurred on May 12 when the middle-aged couple, who were in peninsular Malaysia at the time, received a call from a neighbour informing them that the lights in their house had been switched on.

Upon their return on Wednesday, they discovered a host of valuables, including gold and diamond jewellery as well as local and foreign currencies, had been stolen.

In addition, two luxury handbags worth over RM40,000 were also missing.

Police are investigating after a report of the break-in was lodged.

In an unrelated incident, a salesgirl lost cash and a mobile phone when she lost her handbag at her workplace yesterday.

The  24-year-old victim was attending to customers at a stationery shop in Stutong around 11.30am when the thief man entered the shop and grabbed the handbag from behind the counter.

He then ran to an accomplice waiting on a motorcycle outside before speeding off   from   the  scene.

The handbag contained RM150, a mobile phone and the victim’s identity card.
