MIRI: The 5.75km Miri bicycle track from Taman Selera to Miri City Fan is expected to open to the public in July.

During the project’s launch yesterday, Miri mayor Lawrence Lai said work on the RM2 million project would be carried out in four phases, with phase 1 to begin next week.

“We expect the work to be completed within three months and the bicycle track will be ready before the Malaysia Day celebration in August,” he said.

The first three phases involve improving the existing ground for bicycle tracks, construction of new tracks, and installation of items like traffic signs and protective guardrails.

Phase 1 would involve 1,479 metres at Taman Selera and along Jalan Temenggong Oyong Jau from Taman Selera to the junction of Parkcity Everly Hotel.

The second phase would cover 1,917 metres at Jalan Temenggong Oyong Lawai Jau from the junction of Parkcity Everly Hotel to Jalan Kubu and the Tua Pek Kong Temple.

The 1,343 metres under phase 3 would involve Jalan Bendahara, Jalan Gardenia, Jalan South Yu Seng, and Jalan North Yu Seng to the Miri City Fan.

Under phase 4, the existing concrete drain next to the Divisional Medical Office and Parkcity Everly Hotel would be covered and a new drain constructed next to the medical office.

Phase 4 would involve a distance of 1,010 metres.

Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang launched the project in conjunction with Miri City Day yesterday.
