Sensational Choo to compete in Athens

SIBU: Joseph Choo from the Special Olympics Chapter here will make Sibu proud when he represent Malaysia at the Special Olympics International World Summer Games in Athens, Greece from June 25 to July 4.

According to Special Olympics Asia Pacific operations director Simon Koh, Choo is undergoing intensive training to prepare for the prestigious event.

“For the last two weeks, he has been joining the Borneo International Marathon 2011 in Sabah as part of his and preparation,” he said.

Koh was speaking to reporters after the flag handing over ceremony by the Minister of Environment and Public Health Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh held at the Special Olympics Sibu Chapter premise at AGAPE Centre yesterday.

The Special Olympics Malaysia chairman Datuk Mohd Feisol Hassan, Special Olympics Sibu Chapter chairman Jason Tai and Choo’s parents were also present.

His parents, Choo Tuon Siew and Ling Ai King, expressed their appreciation to the Special Olympics Sibu Chapter chairman for tireless effort in motivating their son, since 1999.

“The Special Olympics Sibu Chapter under its caring and loving chairman, has greatly help to motivate and shape our son into what he is today,” he complimented.

He will join more than 7,200 athletes from 176 countries.

Choo who is driven by his strong determination has participated in the Ten Pin Bowling Asean Zone Competition at the 4th Special Olympics in Labuan in 2002, 2003 5th Special Olympics in Kuala Lumpur, 3rd Mt Kinabalu Climbathon in 2005, 2006 – 21km Saberkas RH Marathon in Kuching and recently the Borneo International Marathon in Sabah.
