STU Sibu to honour retiring members


KUCHING: The Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) Sibu branch will present mementos to 65 retiring members during a luncheon at Paramount Hotel in Sibu at 11.30am today.

A press statement on Thursday said the number of retired teachers has increased sharply for the first time following the implementation of the mandatory retirement
age of 58.

The gathering is held in conjunction with the branch’s 46th annual general meeting (AGM) and Teachers’ Day celebration.

About 400 members are expected to attend the luncheon, which is scheduled to be officiated at by Lanang MP and Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King.

STU president William Ghani Bina is also expected to attend.
