Pidato Toastmasters Club Miri receives award

MIRI: Pidato Toastmasters Club Miri, the only active Bahasa Malaysia club in Sarawak, received the Toastmasters International President’s Distinguished Club Award recently.

It was among 29 clubs to receive awards during the District 87 Inaugural Annual Convention in Kuching from May 20-22.

“The prestigious award was presented to clubs that have achieved nine or 10 out of the 10 goals set up by Toastmasters International.

The goals are set to guide clubs to achieve the main objectives of Toastmasters International in areas of communication and leadership,” said treasurer Judy Wan Morshidi yesterday.

She received the award from 1st District 87 governor Mohamad Ariff Azahari.

The award presentation held during the Gala and Award Night was attended by Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan and his wife Datin Winnie Jolly, who were pioneer members of the first Toastmasters Club in Kuching.

Meanwhile, Pidato Toastmasters Club Miri welcomes those interested to develop public speaking skills in Bahasa Malaysia to attend the club’s fortnightly meetings before committing as members.
