Sipma to go on despite Sukma KL clash

KUALA LUMPUR: The organisers of the Malaysian Educational Institutions Games (Sipma) have pledged to go on with the Games although the dates clashed with the 14th Sukma.

“Although the dates for the Sukma, to be hosted in the Klang Valley, clash with Sipma, it will not cause a major problem.

“Sipma and Sukma feature different kinds of sports,” said Department of Polytechnic Education director-general Md Nor Yusof.

According to Md Nor, Sipma would be held from June 4 to 12, featuring seven types of sports that are not part of the Sukma, namely football, athletics, hockey, squash, badminton, tenpin bowling and swimming.

Sukma meanwhile, held from June 2 to 12 in the Klang Valley, would feature 19 sports, he said during the launching of the Sipma Games mascot by deputy Higher Education minister Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung at Arena OCM here yesterday.

Sipma, to be hosted by Melaka and organised by the Higher Education Ministry, would feature 1,600 athletes, officials and volunteers. — Bernama
