SANTUBONG: Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Peter Nansian yesterday denied talks that the ‘SPDP Five’ will snub the party’s supreme council meeting on June 15.

Nansian, who is also SPDP senior vice president, however confirmed that he wouldn’t be attending because he had to attend an official function overseas from June 14-18.

“We (SPDP 5) do not have any intention to go against the party as well as the president (Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom) by not attending the meeting.

“I am very certain of wanting to attend the meeting (if not for the overseas assignment),” he said when met at a sports-related function here yesterday.

Mawan had revealed that the June 15 meeting would end all issues concerning the party’s performance in the April 16 polls.

Nansian said he believed Mawan would know what is best for the party.

Last May 26, the ‘SPDP Five’ held a press conference to express their concern about the deafening silence of Mawan after the state election.

The silence, absence of any clear direction and plan, according to the group, would leave the party open to attack by the opposition.

In the election, SPDP contested in eight constituencies but lost two.

The biggest upset was when its deputy president Datuk Peter Nyarok Entrie failed to retain Krian.

He lost to PKR’s new face Ali Biju by a 2,090-vote majority.

SPDP also failed to retain Ba Kelalan seat when its new face Willie Liau lost to state PKR liaison chief Baru Bian.
