KUALA PILAH: Umno Supreme Council Member Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi yestserday challenged PAS to drop the word ‘Islam’ from its name.

Mohd Puad, who is Deputy Education Minister, said that PAS was confusing not only the non-Muslims but Muslims as well.

“If PAS is willing to be bullied by the DAP to the extent of abandoning its struggle for an Islamic state, I challenge them to drop the word Islam from the name of the party,” he told reporters after opening the Kuala Pilah Umno division delegates meeting here.

Mohd Puad said that PAS was now talking about a welfare state for want of a better term to use for whatever it was that it claimed to be striving for.

“PAS should not confuse the people with the term welfare state.

“If that is what they want, they should change their name to ‘parti negara kebajikan’…if they dare,” he said. — Bernama
