WOW, WHAT A FEELING: Students of SMK Iskandar Shah from Melaka led by their teacher-in-charge, Sabar Muhamad (back row, right) in a jovial mood with their overall champion trophy.

SIBU: Team spirit and hard work are the keys to achieving success, as demonstrated by SMK Iskandar Shah from Melaka in emerging champion at the National-level Secondary Schools Poem and Song Competition 2011 held here from June 13-16.

The school’s teacher-in- charge, Sabar Muhamad praised the students for their achievement and making Malacca proud.

Sabar stressed that without team spirit, they would not be able to stand where they are today.

“We are one family. Every member in this family plays their respective role.

“We work hard with team spirit in realising our goal towards bringing glory to the state of Malacca,” he said.

Even though SMK Iskandar Shah has been selected to represent Malacca at the ‘National Level Secondary Schools Poem and Song Competition’ since year 2006, they, however, have never made it to the top, he added.

Sabar said they were very excited when their school name was announced as the overall champion in the competition.

“We are indeed very, very happy tonight because we finally made it to the top. We could not believe it because the other contingents are equally good if not better.

“Thus, we dedicate this success to our school, particularly our principal, Zariyah Daud who has being giving her solid support to us as well as all those who have prayed hard for our success,” he said.

The overall second place winner went to SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman from Sarawak and third place was grabbed by SMK (P) St George from Penang.

Meanwhile, SMK Tunku Abdul Rahman Sarawak was the champion in the Poem Category with SMK Iskandar Shah from Malacca in second place and SMK Tengku Lela Segara from Terengganu in third place.

In the Songs Category, SMK Putra from Perlis was adjudged the champion with SMK (P) St George Penang grabbing the second place and SMK Iskandar Shah Malacca in third place.

The prize presentation ceremony was graced by the Education state director Abdillah Adam.

A total of 16 contingents nationwide took part in the competition.
