BADLY DAMAGED: Car being towed out from the pond.

MIRI: A search-and-rescue team is looking for the missing woman driver of a BMW which skidded and went out of control, landing upside down in a pond.

The driver is feared drowned while her female passenger was saved by anglers who happened to be fishing in the pond.

The accident happened at Pujut 7 Road on Sunday evening.

A search-and-rescue operation was launched to locate the driver last night while the passenger, 28, has been sent to Miri Hospital for treatment.

The two women were travelling in the car from town towards Permyjaya when it skidded, hit the construction’s protection zinc by the roadside, and turned turtle in the pond at about 5pm.

Locals who happened to be angling some distance away from the scene dashed towards the car and pulled out the passenger, but the driver was not in the driving seat.

Miri Traffic Police, Lopeng Fire station and JPA3 rushed to the scene after receiving a report on the incident.

As at press time, the rescue team was still looking for the driver’s body in the pond.
