KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 62 programmes or projects worth RM1.18 billion had been announced for implementation in Sarawak up to last April 30, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Prime Minister said of the total, 52 projects would be implemented this year while the rest would be carried out the following year.
“The programmes or projects announced had already been planned much earlier,” he said in a written reply to Teresa Kok Suh Sim (DAP-Seputeh) at the Dewan Rakyat sitting, here yesterday.
Kok wanted the government to name the projects and value of the development projects announced by each ministry two months prior to and during the Sarawak state election campaign in April and the number of projects to be implemented this year.
Najib said out of the nine ministries that were given allocations, the Rural and Regional Development Ministry had the biggest allocation of RM535 million followed by the Health Ministry (RM212,528,000), Public Works Ministry (RM200,000,000), Energy, Green Technology and Water (RM70,000,000), Education (RM65,640,000), Defence (RM48,000,000), Agriculture and Agro-based Industry (RM20,000,000), Science, Technology and Innovations (RM4,500,000) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment RM2,000,000.
He said the total value also included the RM22,748,000 through the special allocation of the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM).
The Prime Minister said water supply, road construction and upgrading as well as the construction of jetties and bridges had been given considerable allocation totalling RM852.660 million while RM278.168 million had been allocated to build and upgrade clinics and hospitals.
The remaining allocation was for contributions and aid, houses of worship for the non-Muslims and others. — Bernama
