KUCHING: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Batu Kawah assemblywoman Christina Chiew is ready for her first State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

Chiew said since winning the constituency in the last state election she had been going to the ground frequently to hear the grouses of the people and prepare for her debates and speeches in the current DUN sitting.

“Yes, I am ready. We have held meetings with the chairman every night. We have a very strong teamwork. I have also listed out 10 questions which I want to bring up at the assembly,” she said when met at the DUN complex on Tuesday.

Among the issues she would highlight in her speech which she would present tomorrow is the lack of development in Batu Kawah constituency such as provision of water and electricity supply, street lightings as well as low water pressure.

Chiew pointed out that Batu Kawah, despite being a sub-urban area still lacked basic infrastructure and utilities, especially in the villages where some residents are still without electricity supply.

“The people have voiced out their problems and made complaints but these problems were never fully solved. So, I will push these problems forward to be considered by the government for a possible answers or solutions,” she stressed.

Chiew believed that it was a prerequisite for an elected representative to go down to the ground regularly to find out the problems the people were facing.

“This is what I’ve been doing. According to comments and feedback from the residents, especially business operators like those in Desa Wira, nothing much has been done in the past few years,” she said.

At the moment, Chiew said she would focus on Batu Kawah constituency before stepping into the bigger issues involving the country.
