TOKYO: Three earthquakes shook parts of Japan with no casualties or damages reported.An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted near the east coast of Honshu, Japan at 6.15pm local time yesterday, the US Geological Survey said.
The epicentre, with a depth of 32.50 km, was initially determined to be at 36.2435 degrees north latitude and 141.7039 degrees east longitude.
The second trembler measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the Fiji region at 7.16am today the US Geological Survey reported.
The epicentre, with a depth of 554.30 km, was initially determined to be at 21.7443 degrees south latitude and 179.0676 degrees west longitude.
The third earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale on Thursday rocked the northeastern Honshu island of Japan, Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The focus of the quake, which occurred at 6.51am local time was located some 20 km under the sea off Iwate and Aomori Prefecture.
A tsunami advisory with expected waves up to 50 cm was issued for the Pacific coast of Iwate Prefecture. The warning was lifted at around 7.47 am local time.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties and the high-speed Shinkansen operation has not been disrupted. No abnormalities have been observed at a nearby nuclear plant in Aomori, NHK reported. – Agencies
