LUCKY TO BE ALIVE: A policeman takes a closer look at the injured youth after members of the public had helped him out of his car.

KUCHING: A youth from Kenyalang Park emerged from his wrecked car with light head injuries after he ‘drove’ some 30 metres along a drain in Kota Sentosa early yesterday.

The 22-year-old was in a Perodua Viva heading towards the city when the vehicle went out of control and crashed into a drain in the middle of Penrissen Road around 2.45am.

However, the momentum of the Viva – believed to be travelling in a fast speed – sent the car sliding along the drain for about 30 metres before it finally came to a halt.

Passing motorists who witnessed the incident stopped to assist the youth out of the wrecked car before calling for an ambulance.

The victim, who appeared to drift in-and-out of consciousness, ended up with minor cuts to his head and arms but was otherwise in stable condition.

In another accident, a youth from Taman BDC claimed to be a victim of a hit-and-run incident, which left his Perodua Kancil lying on its side.

According to the youth, the 3am incident occurred moments after he had turned into a residential lane leading back to his house.

He said a Mercedes Benz exiting the same lane clipped the front of his car and forced him into a tree at the side of the road.

The Kancil then went over a mound of earth, which caused the car to tip over and land on its side.

The youth, who was not hurt in the incident, claimed the Mercedes driver sped off from the scene.
