Passport stampings waived

KOTA KINABALU: Beginning August 1, Sabahans and Sarawakians who travel frequently to and from Brunei will not need to have their passports stamped more than once at the entry and exit points within 90 days.

Immigration Department Director General Datuk Alias Ahmad said this is made possible with the Frequent Traveller Facility (FTF) which has been agreed between both Malaysia and Brunei.

Citizens from both Brunei and Malaysia will only need to have their passports scanned and stamped once within the three-month period, he said.

“This would help to speed up the entry and exit process for travellers as well as save space in the passports,” he said after attending the technical group meeting between the Immigration Department of Malaysia and Brunei at the Sutera Harbour Resort here yesterday.

Also present was Sabah Immigration Department Director Hj Mohammad Mentek.

Alias said the pilot programme would be implemented on a trial basis for six months.

He urged Sabahans, Sarawakians as well as those from the Peninsular who frequently travel to and from Brunei to apply for the FTF.

The FTF, which is free, is valid for a year and can be obtained from any immigration office and border entry points, he said.
