Sibu capture inaugural doubles team title

MUKAH: Sibu Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) team emerged champion when they defeated PTBB Merah of Bintulu in the final of the inaugural Mukah Doubles Inter-Team Tennis Challenge held at Maksak Mukah tennis court here recently.

SLTA won the Challenge Trophy, medals and RM1,200 while PTBB Merah received a trophy, medals and RM1,000.

Joint third-place winners Mukah Doh and Sarikei Divisional Lawn Tennis Association (SDLTA) teams walked home with a trophy, medals and RM400 each.

In addition to the winners, the organiser of the tournament – Mukah Lawn Tennis Association (MLTA), also presented a trophy to the oldest player to Turkey Hamzah, 64, who represented Persatuan Tennis Bahagian Bintulu (PTBB).

The inaugural tournament which took place from June 17 to 19 attracted 70 players representing 10 teams namely PTBB Merah, Sibu Customs, SLTA, Mukah Jann, Mukah Kluang, Mukah Pa’ee, Mukah Doh, Sarikei Divisional Lawn Tennis Association, PTBB Biru and Sri Aman Lawn Tennis Association.

On hand to present the prizes during the final was Mukah District Officer Mohamad Nawawi. Also present was organising chairman who is also MLTA president Othman Bujong and other committee members.
