KUCHING: Words have it that former assistant minister in the Chief Minister’s Department will be made special advisor in the department in-charge of Youth Affairs.
Sources in the political arena went on to say that the proposal was discussed at the state Barisan Nasional (BN) pre-State Legislative Assembly (DUN) meeting two Sundays ago.
Sng, former Pelagus assemblyman, could not be reached yesterday to confirm the proposed appointment.
He is partyless after Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) terminated his membership for insubordination and after the Registrar of Societies in 2009 affirmed that Tan Sri Dr James Masing was the legal president and not Sng.
Prior to the April 16 state election, Sng was holding three portfolios as assistant minister.
Due to his partyless status he was not re-nominated by the BN to defend Pelagus which the BN eventually lost. Pelagus is now held
by Sng’s uncle George Lagong.
Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had even hinted in late 2009 that Sng should stay in the government despite his partyless status when he (Taib) added one assistant minister portfolio to his previous two.
PRS, however, claimed that the additional post rightly belonged to them following the demise of party deputy president and assistant minister, the late Datuk Dublin Unting.
The additional post did not suggest anything but PRS was adamant in closing the door shut to the young and energetic former assemblyman.
Sng has also been a subject of speculations including a move to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) to defend Meradong for the BN in the just concluded state election and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) to defend either Meluan or Kidurong. All these now remain talks in the political arena with some describing them as forgone conclusion.
Should partyless Sng be appointed special advisor in the Chief Minister’s Department, he would be one of those who make it into the list of Taib’s major surprises.
The latest of Taib’s surprises was when Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem was named Special Advisor in the Chief Minister’s Department.
Adenan, also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu information chief and Tanjung Datu assemblyman, is now Special Function Minister in the same department.
