KUCHING: ‘Fabulous’ was the first word Bernie Norris uttered when commenting on the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF).

The Australian seafarer and her husband sailed into Miri on the ‘Single Malt’ two weeks ago from Tioman Island, then took a bus down to Kuching specifically for the 14th edition of RWMF that began last Friday.

After hearing of this internationally renowned music festival by word of mouth, seafarers Joe and Amelia Woody planned their trip specifically to catch the RWMF, arriving in Kuching a few days ago on the ‘Freedom 5’.

“The day workshops and the night concerts are different but they’re both special in their own way,” Woody enthused when asked about the various events offered.

For local Lim Kok Wing student, Sonny Jumpo from Kampung Taee, the RWMF has changed much since his visit five years ago. “There are more tourists and students this time around,” he remarked.

For his research on tattooing, Sonny remarked that the event was helpful as he was able to meet so many people from diverse cultures. He also observed that Dayak tattoo art was quite well known around the world and hoped that when he gets his Dayak tattoo in future, he would be a living evidence of this famous Sarawak artwork.

The three-day RWMF has concluded last Sunday night at the Sarawak Cultural Village.
