RAUB: Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said he too could get millions of supporters to defend the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak by  opening a social Facebook account.

He said the claim by certain quarters that they had gathered 100,000 people via Facebook to demand the prime minister to step down did not give a true picture of the feelings of the majority of Malaysians.

“I can also do the same by gathering more than three million supporters to ask the prime minister not to resign,” Adnan told reporters here after attending a gathering with the people of Raub district, here yesterday.

He was commenting on the claim by certain quarters that they had gathered through Facebook, thousands of voices asking the prime minister to step down on the day (last Saturday) the illegal street demonstration was held in Kuala Lumpur.

Adnan said the contention in the Facebook page was questionable in terms of the actual number of people said to be asking the prime minister to step down.

In a related development, Adnan, who is also Pahang Umno liaison chief and state Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, called on the leaders of BN component parties to go to the ground and meet the people to counter and clarify the allegations made by the opposition.

“The grassroots need to be given clear explanation so that they will understand the role and responsibilities of the BN government for the country,” he said. — Bernama
