KUCHING: A teenage mum-to-be was fortunate to escape unhurt when a motorcycle ridden by her husband crashed into a car in Stutong yesterday morning.

WRECKED: Traffic police personnel investigate the accident at Taman BDC.

The 18-year-old and her 19-year-old husband were on their way to work around 10am when their motorcycle rear-ended a Toyota RAV4 and sent them tumbling onto the road.

Both were brought to the Sarawak General Hospital where checks on the condition of the expectant mother and her unborn child revealed no problems.

Meanwhile, a separate accident about an hour later at Taman BDC saw a man momentarily trapped inside his car before he was freed by members of the public.

The unidentified driver became trapped after he lost control of his old Mitsubishi car and slammed into a tree along the centre road divider around 11am.

Firemen from the Batu Lintang station were called to the scene to extricate the man, but arrived to learn that passing motorists had already helped the victim out and sent him to the hospital.

Traffic police personnel were also on hand to investigate the accident.
