6.5-magnitude quake hits Japan’s Miyagi prefecture

TOKYO: An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale jolted Japan’s northeastern Miyagi Prefecture and its vicinity today, said the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The focus of the quake, which occurred at 13.34pm local time, was located some 125 km off the coast of Sendai, Miyagi with a depth of 35.7 km under seabed, China’s Xinhua news agency quoted the agency and the United States Geological Survey as saying.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to properties, and no tsunami warning was issued.  – Bernama
