KUCHING: President of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) Tan Sri William Mawan said the party would consider new faces for the new state cabinet line-up likely to be announced in September.

“It’s possible. There will be some new faces as the old ones have gone,” he told reporters after officiating at the Anti-Drugs Education Programme at Workplace held at Wisma Sumber Alam here on Thursday.

Mawan, who is also the Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation, pointed out that at the moment SPDP had only one post to fill but hoped to submit more names to Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud soon.

“We will submit more but there is only one vacant post. I hope with the from names that we submit more than one will be accepted,” he added.

Mawan pointed out that the selection of candidates to fill the post would be based on the candidate’s “performance and loyalty to the state Barisan Nasional (BN) team”.

He said that it would be up to the chief minister to decide.

“If the chief minister chooses to replace the list, it would be at his prerogative,” Mawan said.

In the recently concluded state election, SPDP suffered casualties in Krian and Ba Kelalan, which were among the eight seats it contested in.

In Krian, the party’s deputy president Datuk Peter Nyarok lost to Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) newcomer Ali Biju in a four cornered fight, while Willie Liaw lost to PKR state liaison chief Baru Bian (PKR) in Ba Kelalan.

To a question, Mawan said he was very happy serving the people and would do whatever was necessary for the community.

“So far so good for me. I am all for them and willing to serve to my utmost. If they are unhappy with my performance, I am willing to improve and having my KPI assessed,” he said.
