TENOM: Tenom member of parliament Datuk Raime Unggi is asking the Federal Government to speed up the clean water supply projects that have been approved for the district.

He said the RM61.4 million projects under the Regional and Rural Development Ministry would solve the problem of the villagers in getting clean water supply.

“Seven thousand villagers from more than 20 villages in three zones have been facing water supply problem for almost a year,” he told the media while attending the Juara Rakyat program organised by Wanita Umno Tenom at the football field in town on Saturday.

The three zones are Inubai, Mandalom and Entabuan.

“I was told by the Water Department that its plant located near Senagang can supply six million litres of water a day and 2.7 million litres are for users in the town areas,” he said.

He said the surplus from the plant could be channeled to the villages but there were still complaints from the people there was no water.

According to him, the district of Tenom is still lack of water even though there are three plants in operation every day in Senagang, Kemabong and Tenom Lama.

“I have asked the department to check whether the pipes are leaking,” he said.

Raime also asked the department to replace the old pipes and do a study on the long-term water supply need for the district as it is developing rapidly.

He said some villagers had asked the department to send water but the delivery would only come two or three days later to the villages after making the request.

“And only one truck is used to deliver water to the villages and the villagers have asked the department to appoint a private company for water delivery to the affected areas,” he said, adding at least six trucks are needed to supply sufficient water to the affected people.
