Nato heli crashes in eastern Afghanistan

KABUL: A Nato helicopter crashed today in eastern Afghanistan, Xinhua News Agency reports the military alliance as saying in a statement.

“An International Security Assistance Force helicopter crashed in eastern Afghanistan today,” said a statement issued by Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) there.

“As coalition rescue forces approached the crash site, they came under enemy fire,” the statement added.

“Coalition forces returned fire, with small arms, while working to secure the site of the crash. All passengers and crew members have been secured and safely transported to a nearby base,” according to statement.

Meantime, an Afghan police official in eastern Kunar province who declined to be named said that chopper crashed in Manogai district of eastern Kunar province in the wee hours today.

On the other hand, Taliban insurgents claimed of responsibility.

Zabihullah Mujahid who claims to speak for the Taliban told local media that the outfit fighters shot down a foreign troops’ helicopter, killing all people on board.
