HAPPY REUNION: Liew hugs her daughter Jiew after the press conference.

KUCHING: It all ended well for single mother Liew Ngong Chuk yesterday, when her 16-year-old daughter Jiew Tze Yuan who had gone missing since July 21, finally showed up at the front door of her house at Jalan Petanak here.

The mother of a childhood friend whom Jiew apparently spent the last five days with sent the ‘missing’ SMK Kuching High student home after reading in the newspaper that the police were searching for her.

“I am glad that it is all over and there would not be any repeat of this. I now hope she would focus on her studies,” said 38-years-old Liew during a press conference held at the DAP headquarters in Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim here yesterday.

Liew was clearly overjoyed with the reunion, as such is her love for the daughter.

Also present was Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei who on Monday, called for a press conference to highlight the case in the media and to seek assistance in helping to locate Jiew

Meanwhile, Liew, a mother of four, highlighted in the press on Monday that her last contact with the daughter was through an unknown text message (SMS) which stated that her daughter was spending Thursday night at a friend’s house.

When her daughter did not return the next day, Liew lodged a police report. Her fear was further fueled by the fact that she could not contact the said number from where she received the SMS.

The reunion also ended speculation that the daughter was suspected (by the mother) to have run away with an identified man known only as ‘Ah Pao’. The suspicion came about when a picture of the two posing together was posted in Jiew’s Facebook account.
