MIRI: The radio reception of Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) now covers all areas in the state through Short Wave (SW).

According to RTM Sarawak director, Abdul Jalani Mahmud, this has been made possible as SW coverage is much stronger compared to Frequency Modulation (FM).

“We have two radio channels, Sarawak FM and Wai FM, which can be tuned in through short wave frequency,” he said during the Excellent Service Award (ESA) presentation ceremony held at Miri Auditorium yesterday.

In the award presentation ceremony, a total of five recipients received the ESA while six received appreciation awards.

Also present at the ceremony was RTM Miri deputy manager Zulkiffle Daud.

Abdul Jalani also revealed that radio reception through FM was limited to between 85 – 90 per cent of the society.

The same percentage was also true to television broadcasting in Sarawak but collaboration with Astro commercial broadcasting company has helped improve reception.

Commenting on broadcasting content, Abdul Jalani said it would be customised according to the needs of Sarawak and the ministry’s terms and policy.

Meanwhile, he revealed that the existence and content of TVi had only met 50 per cent of the needs of Sabah and Sarawak.
