Cops solve burglary case within 3 hours

MIRI: A man in his 20s was arrested by the police early yesterday morning, barely three hours after he broke into a house in Pujut Garden.

According to sources, police immediately went to work after the victim, a 60 year-old woman, lodged a report at the Miri Central Police Station on the 11.30pm incident.

While at the police station, the woman was shown photos of several individuals who had been involved in house-breaking cases before and she managed to pinpoint one particular mug shot.

The suspect was rounded up near a petrol station at Miri-Pujut road.

In the incident, which was believed to have occurred at about 11.30pm, the suspect was spotted inside one of the rooms of the double-story terrace house by the victim.

In her report, the suspect had tried to choke her when he noted her presence but she managed to release his hold on her. The suspect then fled empty handed after assaulting the victim with a shower head, which required several stitches.

Yesterday’s incident was the second time the house had been broken into. The first was on Chinese New Year this year and losses then totalled more than RM1,000.
