Elderly woman breaks her leg in motorbike crash

KUCHING: An elderly lady fractured her leg after a motorcycle hit her at a bus stop at RPR Batu Kawah near here.

The rider, 31, also sustained head injuries in the accident that happened around 8am yesterday.

The 65-year-old woman and her husband from the low-cost housing area were walking to a church nearby when the incident occurred.

The 66-year-old husband said the motorcycle suddenly careened towards them when they reached the bus stop.

The elderly man and the 15-year-old passenger were unhurt.

According to the passenger, the rider was trying to take off his jacket before he lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into the couple and the bus stop railing. They were on the way to their employer’s house.

Some road users who witnessed the accident immediately went to their help and informed the relevant authorities.

Both victims were sent to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for treatment.

Meanwhile, a 19-year-old youth went into coma after an accident at Jalan Puncak Borneo.

The youth was on his way home at Kampung Benuk when the accident occurred around 4am yesterday in the vicinity of Kampung Garu.

It was believed that the youth was speeding and lost control of the motorcycle.

The victim has been transferred to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at SGH for observation.

The police are investigating both cases.
