Jalur Gemilang convoy distributes 1,150 flags

SRI AMAN: A total of 1,150 Malaysian flags were distributed to the public here when Information Department’s ‘Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Ramadan 2011 (KMJGR’) reached this town yesterday, its fifth stop after it was launched on Aug 1.

At the reception, 10 children from Rumah Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Datuk Ajibah Abol received goodies from the organiser.

At the same time, senior assistant director of Information Department who is also the head of the convoy Helmi Hamid handed over the Jalur Gemilang to
heads of government departments and community leaders.

After that, the flag-off ceremony was performed by Sarawak administrative officer (SAO) Zaidi Sharkawi, who represented Sri Aman Resident, at the premises of Masjid Darul
Asyakirin, Kampung Muhibbah.

The convoy, comprising six four-wheel drive vehicles from the Information Department and the Communication and Multi Media Commission (SKMM) and 15 officers and staff from both agencies, would proceed to Saratok.

The purpose is to encourage more people to fly the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with Merdeka month.

Sri Aman Information Department officer Saini Bojeng said the event started from Kuching on Aug 1 before going to Bau, Sematan and Samarahan.

According to him, on Aug 2, the convoy reached Masjid Kampung Tambirat, Asajaya and then moved to Sri Aman. It will end on Aug 15 at Pekan Weston, Sipitang, Sabah.
