Church’s draw for fundraising coupons postponed

KUCHING: The draw for the fundraising coupons of St Mary Magdalen’s Church, Kpg Emperoh Jambu, Padawan has been postponed to Dec 10.

A statement issued by the chairman of the new St Mary Magdalen’s Church development committee, Paul Ponar Sinjeng said the postponement was inevitable due to the sluggish sale of the coupons.

Ponar also disclosed a total of 200,000 coupons, priced at RM3 each, were printed for this fundraising drive to raise an additional RM600,000 to meet the cost of the new church.

To date, only about 20 per cent of the coupons have been sold.

This is far below the target of 85 per cent that the committee had set to raise at least RM510,000. The construction cost of the new church is about RM700,000, he revealed.

The committee has also been granted a one-year extension (July 31, 2012) to its permit for the sale of the coupons.

Hence, the committee had decided to conduct the draw on Dec 10. The result of which will be published in all local newspapers.

In this respect, Ponar urged all the good Samaritans out there to support the noble effort of the committee of St Mary Magdalen’s by purchasing the coupons that are on sale now. Members of the public can contact Ponar, 019-8569531; James Sinjeng, 019-8171357; or Steven Adi, 019-8183769.
