The students had gone to the UK university to complete the final part of their Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree programme, said a press statement yesterday.

The newly-graduated students are Timothy Chua, Ting Lih Jing, Awangku Mohamad Iqbal Awangku Jinal, Aaron Paran Gugkang, Fidelia Albert T Enti, Evelyn Tan and Vanessa Fahmi Collin.

“We are pleased that our students have obtained their law degrees. We have seen 100 per cent success from our Diploma in Law graduates in Northumbria University,” said SEGi College Sarawak academic head Elina Tiu.

She said all Diploma in Law graduates who had gone to the UK university have gained their degree.

Via Facebook, Aaron said he is happy to have achieved his UK honours law degree and is likely to proceed with his Master of Law (LLM) first before attempting the Bar, the equivalent of Malaysia’s CLP (Certificate in Legal Practice).

Evelyn and Vanessa said via email that they are also considering doing their LLM prior to taking their Bar exams.

The remaining four will return to Kuching.

“At SEGi, we prepare our A-Level and Diploma of Law students with in-depth knowledge of the nature of law, legal institutions, branches of the law and its roles in the society,” said Law programme coordinator James Loi.

Holders of the Diploma in Law will gain advanced standing towards the Law degrees from SEGi’s partner universities, namely Northumbria University or Queensland University of Technology (QUT) in Australia.

“Law covers many aspects of our everyday life, from registering a birth to buying a home, but what’s fascinating about this area of study is the opportunity to study how the law governs our life and the opportunity to evaluate and think critically about any given situation.”

Law can open doors to many other careers, apart from being lawyers, where the analytical skills and problem solving abilities can be of great value to the graduates and their employers.

Those with qualifications in law will enhance their career prospects and in the same time, open vast job opportunities in various fields such as policing, social work, and other law related or para-legal careers.

“For those who are interested in law or becoming lawyers, and still looking for the right route of study, we highly recommend them to start their ambition by enrolling into our A-Level programme or Diploma of Law,” Loi added.

August registration is on and PTPTN financing is available for the law programmes. Email [email protected], call 082-252566 or directly go to the main campus at 211 Jalan Bukit Mata for details.
