KUALA TERENGGANU: The highlight of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Ramadan 2011 expedition organised by the Information Department in Kuala Terengganu was preparing food, the gotong-royong way, for breaking fast and ‘sahur’ (pre-dawn meal) with residents and orphans yesterday.

The breaking-of-fast event was held at the Kampung Tok Jembal Mosque and sahur at Darul Hilmi Orphanage in Teluk Ketapang, Seberang Takir.

The convoy comprising 54 vehicles with staff of the Information Department and village development and security committees from the surrounding areas, waved the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian flag) as they went around the villages in the spirit of the upcoming 54th Independence Day.

State Education, Higher Education, Science, Technology and Human Resource Committee chairman Ahmad Raazif Abdul Rahman said the programme was awe- inspiring because the meals were prepared together.

Ahmad Razif distributed flags to the village committee chairmen and hampers to the disabled, single mothers and the poor.

In Melaka, the Kembara Jalur Gemilang Ramadan convoy distributed ‘bubur lambuk’ (spicy porridge) for breaking of fast in two places.

Melaka Information Department director Zainuddin Ismail told Bernama  that the Jalur Gemilang was also distributed and the response from the public was very encouraging.

The porridge was prepared by staff of agencies and departments under the  Information Communication and Culture Ministry.

The convoy stopped at the Kampung Tengah surau in Bukit Rambai, central Melaka, yesterday and Abrar Mosque in Kampung Seri Minyak, Jasin, yesterday.

This Thursday, the programme will be held at the Kampung Belimbing Dalam Mosque in Alor Gajah. — Bernama
