KOTA KINABALU: The Health Ministry is giving an additional RM3 million allocation to the Catheterization Laboratory (Cath Lab) and Cardiothoracic Services of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II (QEH II) in Luyang.
Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said the additional allocation would help the hospital to be a full-fledge heart centre in Sabah, an equivalent to the National Heart Institute (IJN).
“I am happy to announce this good news as Sabahans will not have to travel all the way to Kuala Lumpur because we have the same services here.
“With the additional allocation, we can buy more equipment for the cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and cardiothoracic anesthesiology that are available in QEH II,” he said.
Asked if there is any suggestion of changing the name of the hospital to Sabah Heart Centre, Liow said the ministry is still using the remain name, QEH II but welcome any suggestion from the State Government if there is any need of changing the name of the hospital.
“If there is any suggestion to change QEH II to Sabah Heart Centre, I have no problem because so far there is no other hospital in Sabah with this kind of equipment,” he added.
