MAKING THE GRADE: Ling receives her certificate from Kee while Tan look on.

SEMATAN: Sarawak has two more qualified judges after Centre of Excellence (Kuching) coach Ling Ung Hee and trainee teacher Gary Tay attended the National Judges (Tuishou, Taolu and Sanshou) course last week.

Out of the 79 people who attended the course at Olympic Hotel in Kuala Lumpur from Aug 4-7, Ling and Tay passed with flying colours as they were among the top 10 with the best results.

The course was conducted by national head coach Tan Ching Foong and Wushu Federation of Malaysia (WFM) president Datuk Seri Kee Yong Wee presented the certificates to the participants.

With Ling and Tay, there are now 15 judges in the state.

The others are Choo Hong Wee, Choong Wei Li, Jong Joon Jit, Donny Tay, Lau Hui Wei, Wong Siew Ling, Wong Hua Yiing, Ho Jong Xian, Chung Tze Wei, Tiong Ching Chiong, Johhny Hii Tai Wei and Goh Swee Li.

Hong Wee, Wei Li and Joon Jit are also international judges.

Meanwhile, Ling has been directed by WFM to compile a project paper on the training for development programmes.

This is in view of the various problems faced by other states such as systematic training, disciplinary code for trainees and coaches in their development programmes.

Some coaches are even barred from entering schools without knowing the reasons behind it.

“Do you think a school will allow a male coach who wears earrings, sports long hair and dyes his hair to go and teach the children?” she asked.

“WFM is very impressed with our development programmes and the behavior of our athletes at national competitions,” she added.

Ling said among all states, Sarawak is the only state that all students/trainees achieved their duan status through proper upgrading examinations.
