House break-in victim calls for more police presence

KUCHING: A resident from Stampin Tengah is calling for regular police patrol in his ‘isolated’ residential area following a break-in which resulted in losses of over RM20,000 on Friday.

The 35-year-old house owner, surnamed Lo, said he was at work when he received a call around 4.30pm from a neighbour informing him that an unfamiliar car was parked in his porch.

Upon his arrival home, Lo found that his automated front gate had been lifted off its hinges, while a supposedly solid padlock on the grill of his front door appeared to have been ‘professionally’ picked open.

A check with his neighbour revealed that an unknown man had entered his house and came out moments later with a drawer and sped away.

Lo believed the thief made a quick  getaway after sensing  the neighbour had  noticed him.

Among the items that were stolen were cash, some jewellery  and two bottles of liquor.

Lo added the isolated nature of his residential area, located off Mile 4 1/2 Penrissen Road, and the lack of visible police patrol meant that houses there were more susceptible to break-ins.

In a separate incident, thieves broke into an office near Kota Sentosa and carted away computers and other items worth several thousand ringgit yesterday.

The theft was discovered in the morning when the owner, a contractor in his 50s, arrived at his office and found five central processing units (CPUs), three monitors, a laptop and other miscellaneous items  missing.A police report of the incident has been lodged.
