MIRI: Villagers in Kampung Muhibbah, Kuala Baram, are crying foul over the price of LPG gas which had shot up from RM33 to RM37 per cylinder recently.

The price hike of LPG gas from both Shell and Petronas has angered the villagers, especially now since they had to spend a lot of time in the kitchen preparing for the Hari Raya celebration.

“I was shocked when informed by the villagers that LPG gas sold at the shops in Kampung Muhibbah had increased by RM4 early this month,” said village chief Nordin Yusof to The Borneo Post yesterday.

Nordin urged the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumerism to go to the ground to monitor the situation.

He added that Shell LPG gas sold at RM37 at the shops in Kuala Baram while vehicles peddling the same ware were selling it RM1 cheaper. Similar price difference is also happening with Petronas LPG.

Meanwhile, the Ministry’s Miri office chief Zakaria Awang, when contacted yesterday, said the ministry would take action against those individuals and shop operators who had hiked the price.

He said his enforcement officers would go to the village to verify the claims and monitor the situation.

Zakaria revealed that under the controlled item list, Shell gas only cost RM28 per cylinder while Petronas’ cost RM27.
