KUCHING: The 90th birthday celebration of the Head of State Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin will be a grand affair with 90 contingents expected to join in the birthday parade and rally.
Minister-in-charge Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan yesterday announced that the main celebration would be held from 7am on Sept 24 (Saturday) at Padang Merdeka.
“We are expecting 90 contingents from both government and private sectors including school children and youth groups.
“There will also be performances at the event,” he said during a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.
Awang Tengah, who is also the second Minister of Planning and Resource Management, added that the birthday celebration will actually kick off with a thanksgiving ceremony at 5.45pm on Sept 22 at Masjid Jamek Petra Jaya.
“On Sept 24, there will also be a Pingat Darjah Kebesaran award ceremony at Dewan Lapau, Bangunan Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak at 11pm.
“It will then be followed by a state banquet at 7.30pm at Dewan Santapan, Bangunan Dewan Undangan Negeri Sarawak on the same day,” he added.
On Sept 25 (Sunday), 500 welfare recipients from the State Welfare Department will also be invited to high tea at Astana Negeri at 9am.
“These individuals also include
the needy. There will also be performances for them to keep the ambience alive,” he stated.
Meanwhile, a Piala Emas Rebutan Yayasan Sarawak football match
will also be held at 3pm on Sept 23 at State Stadium in conjunction with TYT’s birthday.
Also present at the press conference yesterday were deputy State Secretary Datu Ose Murang, Assistant Planning and Resource Management Minister Mohd Naroden Majais, Assistant Minister of Public Health, Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi and Assistant Public Utilities Minister (Water Supply) Sylvester Entri Muran.
