SARIKEI: The community stands to gain a lot by working closely with the government, said Sarikei MP Ding Kuong Hiing.

Such cooperation is vital if the community finds itself in need of assistance from the government, Ding said when he handed over minor rural project (MRP) grant to the management board of SJK Su Lee here yesterday.

He said the RM20,000 grant is to help finance the construction of the school’s stage, which he was informed would cost RM40,000 to complete.

“I believe the MRP fund have lightened the burden of the management board in its fundraising effort,” he added.

Ding presented the cheque to the school’s management board treasurer Lu Phang Tze when he visited the school yesterday morning.

Accompanying Ding was Teng Ung Woo, while among those present to welcome them were the school’s headmaster Frederick Teng and members of the management board.
