Rural folk fed up with opposition’s rhetoric

SIBU: People in rural areas are fed up with the opposition singing the same old tune, more so with the general election around the corner, said Tarat assemblyman Roland Sagah Wee Inn.

He said people in rural areas knew their agenda, and would not be swayed by it.

“They know that at the end of the day it is the BN government with its excellent track record that delivers.

“People there need development, which only BN government is capable of giving,” Sagah told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He was asked to comment on state DAP’s intention to contest in at least 10 parliamentary seats in the 13th General Election.

Its secretary, Chong Chieng Jen, was reported to have said that the party’s aim was to field between 10 and 12 candidates but the final outcome would be subject to negotiations with its Pakatan Rakyat (PR) partners.

Chong, despite remaining tight lipped on intended seats, was quoted to have said DAP would take a mixture, and definitely more Dayak and Malay seats.

To this, Sagah said: “There will be no impact as they (DAP) have a different agenda. People in rural areas will not be taken for a ride.”

Meanwhile, the national news agency quoted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak as saying that the next general election can be held anytime and is not bound by the work of the Parliamentary Select Committee on electoral reforms.
