KOTA KINABALU: The State Customs Department has seized 29 luxury vehicles worth RM3.1 million, believed smuggled from a neighbouring country.

Sabah Customs deputy director of technical services Janathan Kandok said the luxury vehicles were confiscated during a three-month period carried out by Customs enforcement personnel in Kota Kinabalu, Papar and Keningau.

“Initial investigation revealed that the vehicles were believed smuggled from Brunei and the vehicles’ road tax and plate number were changed to prevent detection,” he told reporters at a press conference at the State Customs warehouse in Sepanggar here yesterday.

According to Janathan, no arrest has been made but Customs enforcement personnel have detained the vehicle owners, aged 19 to 43, to assist in their investigation.
