SEMPORNA: The security situation at the border and sea is well under control during the Hari Raya celebrations as personnel are carrying out their patrol duty as normal and in high spirits, said Armed Forces chief General Datuk Hj Zulkifli Hj Zainal Abidin.

Those on duty at the Sarawak-Kalimantan border were in high spirits when he visited one of the posts in Biawak and Ops Pasir area in Semporna to hand over Hari Raya goodies, he said.

Zulkifli, who was on his first visit to the border post and Ops Pasir area, said he was very satisfied with the level of security and spirit of those on duty during the Hari Raya celebrations.

“The programme to visit army personnel who are on duty during Hari Raya is an annual event, and with high ranking officers celebrating with those who are on duty to cheer them up,” he said when visiting the army post in Pandanan Island on Monday to break fast with the personnel their.

Zulkifli who also visited Pulau Berhala, Mantabuan and Mataking said security is guaranteed as patrol duties were carried out as normal even during Hari Raya celebration.

“I visited the Sarawak-kalimantan border; the personnel are very committed in carrying out their duty to guard the border and the TNI (Tentera Nasional Indonesia) cooperation in the joint-patrol is good and security is guaranteed. At sea, there is no problem because during Hari Raya celebration patrols remain the same, those who are on duty will be on duty and those who are on leave will go back for Hari Raya,” he said.

On the first day of Hari Raya on August 30, Zulkifli performed the Takbir Raya and Solat Raya at Sri Wangsa Camp, Semporna with those who were on duty and unable to go back to their hometowns.
